Grain Bin Expansion

Complete Turn-key Solutions.

POET recently completed five grain storage expansion projects, adding nine grain bins and over 6,000,000 bushels total of storage across facilities throughout the Midwest. POET provided complete turn-key packages for the expansions, including all engineering, procurement and construction management services.

Adding two new 683,000 bushel bins more than doubled the storage capacity at facilities in Portland, IN, Corning, IA, Leipsic, OH, and Alexandria, IN. The new grain bin systems were tied into the existing corn receiving, storage, and reclaim systems.

A project in Chancellor, SD included adding a 593,000 bushel bin and a new receiving building with an in ground truck receiving pit, transfer system, and new inbound truck scale and probe system.

Several innovative features were included in these projects, such as the addition of enhanced monitoring instrumentation and innovative dust collection strategies to meet environmental compliance standards.

We also employed a wide range of civil engineering techniques, including geopiers and ground piles to solve the challenges presented by the different sites.

Each project was completed on time, starting construction in the spring and available for the fall harvest, creating value for each facility.

Chancellor set record numbers of trucks through the plant in a day with over 250 trucks with the help from the new expansion.

Mitchell Pellet Mill

A First-of-its-kind Project.

With its unique location, this bioprocessing facility in Mitchell, SD was perfectly situated for access to higher value feed markets but needed new technology to make it happen. We lead development and implementation of a 15 ton per hour DDGS pelleting system.

Pelleting provides superior handling and less feed waste, opening up access to new high value opportunities with cattle ranchers who open graze and field feed.

Our team worked closely with plant staff and commodity partners to develop the scope and meet the needs of the project. The new pelleting system included transfer equipment, pelleting and cooling equipment, screening, 540 tons of storage, and a 180 ton/hr truck load out system.

We orchestrated a multi-team collaboration with operations, marketing, research, and suppliers to work through the challenges of the new technology and optimize production, adding maximum value to the customer’s bottom line.

We provided all of the permitting, detail engineering, procurement, and construction management for the project as well as completing initial feasibility studies. The first-of-its-kind project was delivered successfully on an aggressive seven-month design and execution schedule.
