POET Biorefining
Biorefining is the conversion of biomass materials, such as corn, grasses, wood chips, agricultural waste and other renewables into products including carbon-based fuel.
This conversion usually takes place at a biorefinery, which integrates the biomass conversion process and equipment to produce multiple fuels and products from the biomass.
By producing multiple products, a biorefinery takes advantage of the various components in biomass and their intermediates therefore maximizing the value derived from the biomass feedstock.
Benefits of biorefining:
- Create valuable products from renewable resources
- Reduce dependence on fossil fuels
- Reduce greenhouse gases
- Create jobs and businesses
- Improve rural economies
