The secondary tariff on ethanol imports had been in place to offset tax breaks foreign ethanol received in the United States. However, with the expiration of the ethanol tax credit, the tariff on ethanol imports also expired on Jan. 1, 2012. POET believes that the ethanol industry today is equipped to compete without the tariff.
