Cellulosic Ethanol - The Future
The world is on the brink of an energy revolution. Cellulosic ethanol produces energy from the most abundant organic molecule on the planet -- cellulose. Scientists have known how to convert cellulose to ethanol for decades. The challenge has been doing it economically on a mass scale. POET is solving that problem with Project LIBERTY.
Project LIBERTY is the first large-scale cellulosic ethanol undertaking. POET plans to produce 25 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol in 2012. While this represents a significant fuel supply in its own right, Project LIBERTY's greatest value comes from the knowledge that will be gained. We'll learn how to build and operate the necessary infrastructure more efficiently. And by taking production to a commercial scale, we'll make cellulosic ethanol economically feasible. Simply put, it's the most significant step towards commercial production the industry has ever made.
